What you need
- Smartphone with a rear camera (8MP or higher).
- Plain white wall or a white bed sheet hung flat.
- Natural light source — a large window works best.
- Tripod or a friend to hold the phone at eye level, about 1.5 metres away.
- PhotoResizer.in to crop and resize the final image to exact specifications.
Step 1: Prepare your background
Stand at least 30 cm in front of a plain white wall. This gap prevents your shadow from falling on the wall. If your wall isn't white, hang a clean white sheet or use the Background Color Changer to fix it digitally after shooting.
Step 2: Set up lighting
Position yourself facing a large window. The light should fall evenly across your face without creating shadows on one side. Avoid overhead lights, which create dark under-eye shadows. Cloudy days provide the best diffused lighting. Read our complete lighting guide for document photos.
Step 3: Frame and shoot
The camera should be at eye level, about 1.5 metres away. Use the rear camera (not the selfie camera) for sharper results with less lens distortion. Centre your face in the frame with space above your head and shoulders visible. Take multiple shots to choose the best one.
Camera settings: Turn off flash, disable beauty mode, use the highest resolution, and avoid zoom. Portrait mode on modern phones may add background blur — turn it off.
Step 4: Resize and adjust
Open PhotoResizer.in's Image Resizer. Upload your photo and set the dimensions to 600×600 px (or your country's requirement). Adjust the file size to stay within 20KB–200KB. The tool processes everything in your browser — your photo never leaves your device.

Step 5: Verify and submit
Before submitting, double-check: Is the background uniformly white? Is your expression neutral? Are your eyes clearly visible? Is the file the right size? If everything looks good, download and upload to your portal.
